Downtown Happenings - August 2010 Ellie Staley
There are always new things happening in the Downtown Bozeman area. Whether it’s a new business opening, an existing business remodeling or just a simple update, I want to keep you informed about what going on in downtown!
Bozeman Optical at 118 East Main, Now Open!
Owner of the new Bozeman Optical, Tricia McMenaman has been a licensed Optician for 24 years and her dream of having her own optical business is now a reality. She received her degree in optometric science in New Jersey in 1986 and after working in almost every facet of the optic industry in the eastern part of the country, Tricia made her way to Montana and continued to gain experience in her field at places like Pearl Vision, Bent Lens and working with local Optometrist, Dr. Squire but always knew she wanted a business she could call her own!
Tricia knew she, “wanted to provide Bozeman with new, innovative and affordable eyewear styles with a wide selection to choose from as well as offer “the classics” in polarization (sunglasses) like Maui Jim and Ray Ban.” She also feels a strong “commitment to the community (of Bozeman) to provide the best service in technical and fashionable eyewear!” This is exactly what Tricia has done. Bozeman Optical is located at 118 in a newly renovated, stylish historic downtown location with beautiful and modern eyewear displays as well as a photograph center where Tricia provides her customers with printed images of themselves in different styles. According to Tricia, “many of her customers aren’t able to see once they’ve removed their prescription and this service seemed like an obvious solution to helping them find the right look.”
Besides the great selection of eyewear featuring unique and affordable lines like OGI, Nine West, Kate Spade, Banana Republic, Vera Wang, Vera Bradley, Hugo Boss, Alain Mikli and more, Bozeman Optical also offers a vintage collection called “1880” by Marius Morel, many styles of reading glasses and all eyewear accessories like cleaning products, chords and cloths. There are also FREE adjustments and repairs on any purchase including nose pads replacements. Bozeman Optical is now open and their summer hours Monday through Friday 10am to 7pm and Saturday from 10am to 5pm and can be reached at 586-8412 for more information. Welcome to Downtown Bozeman Tricia!
Horny Moose Smokehouse and Barbecue Slated to Open Early August!
Tom and Lorrie Geer have only been in Bozeman for a little over 3 years but they sure have made their mark on the community and are enjoying every minute of it! According to Tom, although he was born and raised in Michigan, “I have always been a Montanan….I was just born in a different state.” Currently, Tom and Lorrie own a successful local business, Kodiak Restoration and are getting ready to open a new restaurant in Downtown Bozeman called The Horny Moose, Authentic Smokehouse Barbecue located at 307 East Main Street by Monday, August 2nd, “just in time for the Sweet Pea Festival,” according to Tom.
Tom, Lorrie and their 3 kids decided to move to Bozeman in 2007 mainly because of a highly acclaimed private school called Bozeman Christian where they wanted to send their kids to school and then quickly started their current business Kodiak Restoration. After doing numerous charity events with the MSU athletic department where Tom was the “pitmaster”, he began his love for quality meats, cooked right. Tom jokingly mentions that, “I know what’s good because…I like to eat.” So, about 6 months ago, Tom headed to Murphysboro, IL to learn Memphis Style barbeque from legend, Mike Mills, a 4-time national champion BBQ’r and owner of 4 renowned restaurants in Illinois and 3 other “championship BBQ” restaurants in Las Vegas. Now, with proper training under his belt, Tom began to develop his idea for his new “establishment that people not only enjoy the food but also the experience.” He has located in a beautiful downtown space that he is currently renovating just next door to Bar IX a newly opened bar in downtown and the 2 establishments plan to work together to provide each other’s services at both locations.
Tom is focused on providing “family-oriented energy by building relationships and offering the best smoked meats and homemade selections around.” A sample of the menu includes huge beef ribs called dinosaur bones, pulled pork, corned beef brisket, smoked chicken wings, and fresh pork rinds just to mention a few. Horny Moose will also feature an array of fresh baked goods from cobbler, cheese cakes, bread pudding and their “famous” cornbread cupcakes to breakfast served Friday through Sunday featuring breakfast skillets, smoked sausage gravy and biscuits and more. The Horny Moose will be open daily; Monday through Thursday 11am to 3am and Friday through Sunday 7am to 3am. Visit www.thehornymoose.com for more information or stop by The Horny Moose for breakfast, lunch or dinner and welcome this new restaurant to Downtown Bozeman!
